CANCELLED Meet the Farmer: Backyard Composting
April 22 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
This event is sold out! Please join the waitlist to be notified if any spaces open up.
Turn those kitchen scraps into new food on your plate. Farmer Lis will introduce you to the in’s-and-out’s of composting. You’ll learn about the different options for backyard composting setups, from advanced equipment to the simple method of burying scraps in unused garden spots to bulk up your soil microbiome for next season. You’ll also get a tour of the new Eastman’s Corner composting unit, which quickly and efficiently transforms our compostables and food waste into rich fuel for our greenhouses. We’ll finish up by offering kids a chance to help out with some animal chores.
The Meet the Farmer series is a fun way for the whole family to learn about gardening, animal husbandry and sustainable agriculture. Our farmer, Lis Schneider, has been a year-round agriculturalist for over a decade. She works to encourage more young people to fall in love with the earth and outdoors by showing them all the fun and wonder to be found in their own backyards and gardens.
Park in the dirt lot and walk up to the children’s greenhouse (the last one on the right). Guests who have difficulty walking can still access our greenhouse and garden. Just contact us with any questions or special needs.
These events are free but space is limited. Please register to hold your spot.
